Stedelijk Museum

Stedelijk - Amsterdam The Stedelik Museum is another interesting touristic spot in Amsterdam. This spectacular construction includes valuable collections and other fascinating areas in its interior; as an example, we can mention the Asian art, the Chronometry Museum, the Pharmaceutical Museum and the Militia Area. This representative building was established in 1874 but it started to offer free exhibitions to the public in 1895. This amazing building was designed by the famous architect Adriaan Willen Weissman and the project was financed by important companies such as Lopez Suaso de Bruins and Dowager S.A.

In 1909, the Stedelik Museum received a large number of paintings from different artists as a part of a big donation at that time. The master pieces were from different artists such as Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and Wassily Kandinsky, just to mention a few. That is why the Stedelijk Museum became famous and notorious. In addition, visitors can find splendid collections of objects and fine art because the building houses another important museum that is called The Modern Applied Art Museum.

Conveniently, this museum is situated near other important museums in the city such as the Rijksmuseum, the Museum Square and the Van Gogh Museum. The Stedelik Museum is closed due to restoration and maintenance; actually, this cultural hub has been renovated several times and plenty of people are excited for the reopening in 2012.
