Scheepvaartmuseum - Amsterdam The Scheepvaartmuseum is basically a museum that is dedicated to inform about the Maritime history in Netherlands. In fact, this important site in the city houses the Former Naval Storehouse. That is why many people considered this cultural hub as one of most important hubs in the city. The Scheepvaartmuseum, Maritime Museum of the Netherlands was built in 1656 but it was moved to its original place in the year of 1973.

Visitors can find a large number of maritime objects and artwork related to sailing and shipping. There are some paintings that describe historical sea battles, weapons, maps, scale models and other interesting things. This museum has several collections that tourist can see and admire the bravery and courage of some Dutch sailors.

For instance, there is a singular collection that shows maps made of important cartographers from the 17th century; we are talking about Joan Blaeu and Willem Blaeu. In addition, there are multimedia exhibitions, plays and video games that were exclusively created for kids. Without a doubt, the Scheepvaartmuseum is an excellent cultural hub where adults and kids can obtain a wide understanding of the Dutch history.

The Scheepvaartmuseum, Maritime Museum of the Netherlands is located near the Amsterdamís downtown, right next door to Amsterdamís old harbor. The design was elaborated by the prestigious designer Daniel Stalpaert, and it was built in the year 1656. The museum is available everyday; including weekends from 10: 00 AM to 5:00 PM.
