Vondel Church

Vondel Church - Amsterdam Even though the Vondel Church is quite small, many people around the world visit this place because the church transmits a warm feeling inside there. This beautiful church was designed by the prestigious architect Cuypers. In fact, Cuypers was the principal architect who designed the two principal constructions of the city; we are talking about the Rijksmuseum and the Central Station.

The Vondel Church has the sacred form of the heart of Jesus. The church was finally constructed in the year of 1880. That is why this church is considered as one of the most important Catholic churches of the 18th century. This emblematic religious center is strategically located in a residential area. It was actually a Cuypers’ idea to put churches between houses. He had the idealistic thinking of social integration through its work.

In the year of 1977, the church closed its religious services and it was closed to enter in a restoration process. Several years later, the church was opened but it only served as a marriage location. The church was named Vondel in honor of the prestigious Dutch writer Joost van den Vondel. Visiting this church is a must in Amsterdam.
